Welcome to the Durham Locomotive Preservation Group (DLPG) Website.

DLPG (Ex - WRLPG) was originally setup to support the Weardale Railway providing locomotives and rolling stock for use on the railway. The group was originally setup by volunteers to renovate and maintain two sentinel locomotives that were donated to the then Weardale Railway society. Over the years the group developed, raising funds and aquiring more vehicles. The group is now a registered charity (1114642) with a growing membership.

Over the past years of the Weardale Railway's operation the groups sentinel locomotive especially has provided a huge support through its maintenance train duties and for runaround and shunting moves at the Wolsingham depot. In the railways early days the group secured the long term future of the site of the current depot and undertook a large proportion of the early track clearance.

The groups current main project is to restore No 77 'Norwood', a powerfull RSH tank locomotive for use on local heritage railways. RSH No77 was the last working Steam Locomotive in the North East of England not in preservation so it is an important part of our heritage! Fundraising has been underway for a number of years now and a large amount of the missing components aquired. This has been aided with a successful grant application to the Banks Foundation.  Restoration activities are underway at RRNE at Hackworth Industrial Estate, Shildon with regular evening and weekend working parties.
